If you were hoping for a teaser, Worlds 2026 gave you the opposite. The closing ceremony video on August 31 dropped full stats for six new cards at once, headlined by the first Lucario Mega Evolution the format has seen in years, and it arrives with a mechanic nobody had used before.
The same video revealed Sigilyph ex, a card built to answer Mega Evolution ex decks directly, plus four new Mega Attack Rares built around Pokémon that already had chase cards in earlier sets this year. Two Japanese expansions carry all of this. One has a release date from an official trademark filing. The other is still sourced to industry insiders, no matter how specific the numbers you'll see quoted online look.
Mega Lucario Z ex is the first Z Mega Evolution
Z Mega Evolution is a new branch inside the Mega block, tied to the Mega Dimension content for Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Mega Lucario Z ex is the first one to reach the card game: a Metal-type Stage 1 with 330 HP, evolving from Riolu, card 057/078 in the Japanese set.
Its Ability, also called Aura Seeker, searches your deck for a Supporter card once per turn while it sits in the Active Spot. Dancing Fist costs two Metal Energy for 120 damage, jumping to 240 if the opponent's Active is a Pokémon ex. That's a real number for two Energy, and against a Standard format where most decks lead with an ex, it usually is 240. Like every Mega Evolution ex, a Knock Out on Mega Lucario Z ex hands the opponent three Prize cards instead of one.
The set carrying it, Aura Seeker, also reported as Hadou Seeker, is scheduled to release in Japan on November 27, 2026, with 78 cards in the main set before full arts and secret rares. An English release isn't dated yet, though the pattern from this year's other Mega sets points to early 2027.
Sigilyph ex answers the mechanic it's launching next to
Sigilyph ex is a Basic Psychic Pokémon with 210 HP, card 031/078. Its Ability, Mega Protector, prevents all damage from the opponent's Mega Evolution ex attacks completely, not reduced, zero. Power Cyclone deals 140 damage for three Colorless Energy and shifts one Energy from Sigilyph to a Benched Pokémon.
Revealing a hard counter to Mega Evolution ex in the same breath as more Mega Evolution ex cards is a strange choice, or a deliberate one. Standard is still built around big ex attackers, and a Basic that takes zero from them starting turn one is the kind of card a metagame reorganizes around. Whether it's actually good depends on decks nobody has built yet, so don't take our word for it before it releases.
MEGA x MEGA Parade lines up four returning names, in a rarity nobody has used before
MEGA x MEGA Parade is Japan's next High Class Pack, a pricier format at 550 yen per pack against the usual 200, with ten cards per pack instead of five and a guaranteed hit. A trademark filing plus retailer reporting point to a February 19, 2027 release in Japan, with an English version expected to follow in March. None of that comes from an official Pokémon announcement yet, so hold the date loosely.
High Class Packs usually lean on reprints, and this one is expected to bring back Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y from the Mega Dimension content alongside a wide spread of earlier Mega Evolution ex cards. What wasn't expected was four brand new cards shown in the closing ceremony video: Mega Greninja ex, Mega Rayquaza ex, Mega Darkrai ex and Mega Zygarde ex, each in a rarity marked MA. That stands for Mega Attack Rare, and it's new.
Every MA Rare we've seen carries a set stamp printed at the bottom, and on these four it reads M7a, the same code Japanese fan trackers had already tied to MEGA x MEGA Parade from the trademark filing. Pokémon hasn't confirmed the pairing out loud. The card itself already has.
Mega Rayquaza ex is numbered 218/165, past the 165-card main set, in the secret rare print run. Its attack, Storm Emeralda, costs one Fire, one Lightning and one Colorless Energy for 50 damage times every Fire and Lightning Energy attached across your whole board. The name isn't new. It's the same Storm Emeralda that headlined our own coverage of that Japanese set's chase card back in July.
Mega Greninja ex, card 208/165 MA, has 350 HP. Its Ability discards a Water Energy from hand to put six damage counters on an opposing Pokémon once per turn while Active. Ninja Spinner costs two Water Energy for 120 damage, or 200 if you're willing to return an attached Water Energy to your hand for it. The art spells "Ninja Spinner" across the whole card in English lettering, the same treatment every MA Rare gets.
Mega Darkrai ex, 217/165 MA, is a Darkness-type Basic with 280 HP. Night Raid deals 110 damage, jumping by 110 more if any of your Benched Pokémon already has damage counters on it. Abyss Eye, the pricier attack, knocks out the opponent's Active outright if it's affected by a Special Condition. That's a real answer to Sleep and Poison stall, on a card that also just attacks for solid numbers on its own.
Mega Zygarde ex rounds out the four at 214/165 MA, a Fighting-type Basic with 310 HP. Gaia Wave hits for 200 and reduces the damage this Pokémon takes next turn by 30. Its bigger attack flips a coin for every Pokémon your opponent controls, Bench included, and hits each one that lands heads for 150, ignoring Weakness and Resistance on the way. That's the kind of attack that either ends a game outright or does almost nothing, with no in between.
What's confirmed and what still isn't
The names, HP, types, Abilities and attacks for all six Pokémon are confirmed straight from the official reveal video and the card images that followed it. So is the November 27, 2026 date for Aura Seeker, backed by an official trademark filing. What isn't confirmed: the February 19, 2027 date for MEGA x MEGA Parade, the pairing between that set and the four MA Rares, strongly implied by the M7a stamp but never stated by Pokémon, print quantities, pricing beyond the standard High Class Pack rate, and any English set name or date for either release. Chase card pricing is further out still. Nobody has pulled these in a real pack yet, and pricing them before that happens is a guess, however specific it sounds.
MA Rare is the fourth new rarity tier the Pokémon TCG has introduced in about a year, after Mega Ultra Rare and the English-only Futuristic Rare from 30th Celebration. Each new tier makes older "complete the set" math harder, and it's part of the same shift we've been tracking in the 2026 booster box market. Every time a high value chase card lands, a wave of convincing fakes follows it.
