Market snapshot, August 24, 2026. PriceCharting highlighted a 144,000 dollar sale for a PSA 10 Lugia HGSS02 and a series of exceptional Rayquaza results. Those numbers deserve attention, but neither should be applied to a raw card or a different printing.
Lugia produced the loudest headline
The HGSS02 Black Star Promo is a 2010 English holo. PriceCharting reported that a PSA 10 changed hands for 144,000 dollars after another top grade copy sold for 9,685 dollars in March. Its own calculated guide remained far below the new result because the grade trades so rarely. That gap is the story: one buyer established a record, not a stable everyday price.
Rayquaza demand reached several eras
Recent attention was not limited to one Rayquaza. PriceCharting described broad movement across the character, while public sale trackers recorded new highs for vintage Gold Star cards and later cards such as Rayquaza C LV.X. Character demand can lift several cards at once, but each set still has its own supply and grade population.
Modern liquidity remained visible
High volume cards tell a calmer story. Recent PriceCharting data showed daily sales for Pikachu ex 238 in both raw and PSA 10 condition. A card that sells every day produces a more useful range than a trophy card with one annual transaction. The price may still move, but buyers have more comparable sales to inspect.
What we are watching next
We are watching whether another HGSS02 PSA 10 sale confirms the new level, whether Rayquaza records attract ordinary collectors or remain concentrated at the highest grades, and whether modern chase cards keep their sales volume after the next product cycle begins.
This report is not a list of cards to buy. It is a dated record of where attention and completed transactions were concentrated.
