What reportedly sold
The card is Lugia HGSS02, released as an English Black Star Promo in 2010. PriceCharting reported a PSA Gem Mint 10 sale of 144,000 dollars on August 24, 2026. A market tracker also identified the transaction as a Fanatics sale. The exact grade and certification are essential parts of the story.
Why the percentage looks so extreme
The previous comparison cited by PriceCharting was 9,685 dollars in March. Moving from that sale to 144,000 dollars produces an increase near 1,387 percent. That calculation is mathematically correct, but it compares two isolated transactions in a grade that appears roughly once a year in PriceCharting volume data.
A market with one annual sale has no tight bid and ask range. A motivated buyer, unusually strong eye appeal or exceptional provenance can produce a result that the next copy never repeats.
The ordinary card market remained elsewhere
At the time of this review, PriceCharting showed raw HGSS02 sales mostly in the tens of dollars and a calculated PSA 10 market value far below the new record. That does not prove the record was invalid. It proves the algorithm had more history than confirmation at the new level.
How to value another Lugia HGSS02
- Confirm the HGSS02 code and English promotional printing.
- Separate raw, PSA 9, PSA 10 and every other certification.
- Check the certification number and photographs of the actual copy.
- Use several recent completed sales when the grade provides them.
- Describe a single record as a record, not as the market price.
The next public PSA 10 sale will be more informative than any percentage based on the record alone.

Frequently asked questions
- Did every Lugia HGSS02 become worth 144,000 dollars?
No. The reported price belongs to one PSA 10 transaction.
- What is a raw Lugia HGSS02?
A raw copy has not been graded by a third party. Its condition must be judged directly and cannot inherit a PSA 10 price.
- Why are PSA 10 copies difficult to price?
They sell very infrequently, so one transaction can sit far away from the previous result.
